Born in Manchester with Jamaican roots, A Guy Called Gerald is a legendary figure in the electronic music scene. Growing up in Moss Side, his music was shaped by influences ranging from his father's reggae records and his mother's church hymns to Manchester's jazz fusion and electro-funk movements.
In the 1980s, Gerald's passion for music led to the formation of Scratchbeat Masters and his involvement with 808 State, making his professional debut on their 1988 album "Newbuild". Going solo, Gerald gained fame with the acid house hit "Voodoo Ray" and contributed to 808 State's "Pacific State". He continued to release notable albums, including "Hot Lemonade" and "Automanikk," and founded Juice Box Records, playing a key role in the development of the jungle and drum and bass scenes.
Throughout the late 90s and early 2000s, he released albums on !K7 Records and founded the Sugoi and Protechson labels, contributing to a diverse collection of work. Gerald's dynamic performances and unique blend of Chicago house, Detroit techno and UK dance music have earned him international acclaim and solidified his legacy as a pioneer in the electronic music industry.
