AUTOPLAY is an invitation to create spontaneously in a group setting. Diego Melgar and The Third Ear will lead an improvisation, open to anyone who'd like to participate, with the goal of communal cohesion through individual expression. Broadcast by Miami Community Radio, the night will also feature visuals by Nika, and sets by Butterfly Snapple and David Friend. The Third Ear blends entirely free improvisations with conductions led by Diego Melgar, where intuitive hand signals are used to guide musicians to create a greater compositional unity. This is a style inspired by Butch Morris, Sun Ra, and Thad Jones that is aimed at those who know that flow-state music can transport you to new worlds and leave you feeling rejuvenated. It is not only accessible, but can push even veteran musicians to new heights, as we seek new sounds and forms that no one could not create alone.
