An Opera Experience about Queer Nightlife
Sinopse
Com música de Vahan Salorian e libreto de Dominic Kimberlin, a ópera Boys of Paradise é uma viagem vertiginosa pelo mundo da noite gay, inspirada na experiência real dos autores na gay scene de Vauxhall em Londres. A história acompanha as aventuras dos protagonistas Twink, Cub e Fag Hag na discoteca Paradizia, representando arquétipos da noite gay. A versão portuguesa transporta esse mundo para a realidade lisboeta. Este espetáculo é o culminar de uma semana de residência artística, que tem como objectivo apresentar a ópera numa versão portuguesa, semi-encenada e acompanhada ao piano. A ópera Boys of Paradise encerra a 6ª edição do festival Reverso - encontro de autores, artistas e editores independentes, organizado pela Cossoul.
English Sinopsis
With music by Vahan Salorian and a libretto by Dominic Kimberlin, the opera Boys of Paradise is a dizzying journey through the gay nightlife scene, inspired by the authors' real experiences in the Vauxhall gay scene in London. The story follows the adventures of protagonists Twink, Cub, and Fag Hag at the nightclub Paraedizia, representing archetypes of the gay nightlife. The Portuguese version brings this world to the Lisbon context.
This performance will serve as a showcase for the project's artistic residency, with the aim to
present the opera in its Portuguese adaptation, and in a semi-staged version with piano.
Boys of Paradise will close the 6th edition of the Reverso festival - a meeting of independent
authors, artists and publishers.
