Recognized as one of the greatest in the world for its musical output, it is also a city whose artists have so much love and pride for their heritage. Amidst the city’s problems over the years, the inspiration remains strong and many of the artists from Detroit are innovators of electronic music. Creating landscapes through sound, music from originators Jeff Mills, Kevin Saunderson, Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Carl Craig, Moodymann, Underground Resistance, Stacey Pullen, Kenny Larkin, Robert Hood, Recloose, Octave One and many more have influenced people the world over, and without them, the music of today would not be what it is. They have also paved the way for newer artists like Seth Troxler, Kyle Hall, Lee Curtiss, Shaun Reeves, Ryan Crosson and Jay Daniel; each artist uniquely taking the melodic and unforgettable sounds of Detroit into the future. ‘Detroit Love’ is a concept from Carl Craig, designed to bring together and support the sounds of Detroit and take a little of the techno brotherhood to clubs and festivals the world over. “Love is what I have for my city, Detroit. ‘Detroit Love’ is my way of spreading this love, a love for music from the city, my heritage and who I am as a producer and performer. My love for Detroit is my inspiration, my inspiration is ‘Detroit Love’.” – Carl Craig Carl Craig is a multi-disciplined visionary whose eclectic tastes and influences all converge into his “main discipline” – Carl Craig. The Detroit pioneer’s lifelong pursuit of independence and self-gratification is the catalyst behind three decades of innovation and achievement within the realm of electronic music. His standing within Motor City’s highly influential techno fraternity places him at the forefront of the global community, inspiring future generations of techno enthusiasts since he got started. As the mastermind behind Planet E Communications, Carl conceived and nurtured a platform that preserves his independence, while also providing a liberating space for a range of international artists. From the beginning Carl and his label have consistently pushed the boundaries of creativity, in turn stimulating the growth and evolution of techno, ensuring its progressive ethos is at the centre of his endeavours. A natural born fighter, Carl’s determination, innate gift for channeling emotion into his work and unwavering commitment to his freedom have established him as a master of his craft. Octave One, the Detroit-based electronic duo of Lenny and Lawrence Burden, is known for their electrifying live performances that blend funk, house, and symphonic beats using synthesizers and sequencers. Since debuting in 1990 with “I Believe,” the group has produced iconic tracks like the million-selling “Black Water” and earned critical acclaim for songs such as “Empower” and “The X-files.” In 2023, they released a new album, Endustry, under their Random Noise Generation alias, accompanied by live shows. Octave One’s dynamic performances, including a notable 2016 collaboration with the Tonhalle Orchestra, have solidified their reputation as more than just a band, offering fans a unique, boundary-pushing musical experience. Deeply rooted in the Detroit music scene, Ernie Guerra aka ERNO embodies the varied styles of music the city is known to produce. Dabbling in nothing and involved with everything, ERNO has been DJing and producing for over 15 years. His sets can be best described as disco and classic house having a love affair with techno, showcasing his love of over 4 decades of dance music. The backbone is funk but is adapted to modern dance music to create a continuous experience, psychedelic even. ERNO is a forefront member of Tour Detroit, the legendary summer party series that traveled to random venues each month. Also a record collector, he co-hosts a weekly 100% vinyl, crate digging night called Slow Jams, which is 12 years and running. // BERHTA: Detroit Love // Carl Craig (Planet E | Detroit) soundcloud.com/carlcraignet carlcraig.net/ Octave One [LiVE] (430 West | Detroit) soundcloud.com/octaveone octaveone.com/ ERNO soundcloud.com/ernotheinferno _________________________________ ⠶⠶⠶⠶⠶ Flash Safe Space Policy ⠶⠶⠶⠶⠶ Flash stands firmly against non-consensual behavior, discrimination, harassment or harm of any kind.
