On December 5th, DVS1 steps into the booth at BASEMENT for an all night session celebrating 30 years of HUSH. The label, event series and studio has been a key facet of DVS1’s career. Since its inception, he’s used HUSH as a vessel to push his vision forward, without compromise or dilution. This night will be a masterclass; DVS1 is one of the key artists in the genre without any qualification or caveat. His roots go back to the storied Midwest rave scene of the ‘90s, where he organized massively popular warehouse raves starting at the age of 18. These events allowed him to develop and hone his vision, both as a DJ and as a sonic architect. The care he brought to every facet of each event was an expression of a profound relationship to techno, and to his clear eyed vision for the future. It was also here that his mixing style - precise yet feverish, impassioned yet restrained - found form. Since that time, he’s been welcomed to every venue and festival of renown, and has released his music on many of techno’s most esteemed labels. His own label curation, on Hush and Mistress, has been as immaculate as the selections in his sets. It’s rare that an artist gets to take over the room from open to close, but if anyone can handle it, it’s DVS1.
Demi Riquísimo makes his debut in STUDIO. The Detroit-born, London-based artist has become a certified breakout, pushing a delicious take on italo-drenched disco house. Tracks like “Don’t Go Away” feel like instant classics, with an uncontainable energy and cresting, euphoric highs that leap out of the speakers from the first moment. His Semi Delicious label boasts a head-turning roster of fellow party starters as well, positioning Riquísimo at the center of a thrilling artistic moment. This will be a treat. Tommy Hart returns. It’s a perfect pairing with Riquísimo; Hart also draws on a deep well of glimmering, soulful house. Hart’s sets are imbued with a effusive, joyful glow that pulls inspiration from classic house iterations from across the decades. Meilgaarden completes the lineup. The queen of pumping basslines, Meilgaarden’s specialty are recovered lost classics from the turn of the millenium. Her sets ooze with ravey sensuality and a glistening, synthetic sheen.
