Description
January begins at Green Room with four artists pushing the queer underground forward: Aaron Clark, LYDO, Tomás Urqueita and estro. These skilled selectors touch every corner of queer nightlife through work as organizers (via institutions like Honcho Campout and XTRA SERVICES), producers, sound artists and beyond. All of these dimensions come alive on the dancefloor – there’s a shared love of the fuzzy space in between genres, building atmosphere without losing sight of driving power and a pulsating groove. This night will explore everything from “house and weird stuff” to “stompy tech house and funky techno” (in their own words). Come ready to dance. Aaron Clark is a co-founder of the Honcho and Hot Mass collectives in Pittsburgh, as well as the pre-eminent festival in queer underground American dance music – Honcho Campout. His sound is the American Midwest, sliding effortlessly between house and techno – everything sharing the common threads of heavy kicks, funk, and a slathering of the psychedelic. LYDO is a Filipino-born Vietnamese-American sound artist. As a resident DJ of BASEMENT NY, their distinctive sets explode the parameters of techno, deftly cutting across genres while retaining a highly personal emotional resonance. Whenever LYDO plays, it’s best to leave your expectations at the door and simply prepare for an unexpected array of sonic thrills, ranging from visceral and grooving to mind-bendingly experimental. LYDO launched X-TRA.SERVICES to serve and create space for queer, trans, and nonbinary people of color and the itinerant ambient series care. , which continues to showcase new sonic forms in various and strange places. Beyond the club, LYDO works with sound through installation, composition, and curation. Their abstract, experimental work spans museum and institutional contexts, including MoMA PS1, SculptureCenter, and Kunsthalle Basel, among others. Tomás Urquieta is a Chilean-born, New York–based producer focused on techno and house. His third album, Ai Ferri Corti (Herrensauna), along with releases such as “32 Balas” on TRATRATRAX, presents a body of work defined by intensity, precision, and a clear dancefloor focus. estro is one of the rising stars of the next generation of Brooklyn DJs/organizers. A fixture of institutions like Bossa Nova Civic Club and Mansions, recent months have seen gag-worthy twirls inclucing Herrensauna’s new party, Heaven. estro also produces the party ORCHIDANCE. No-phone dancefloor. No photos. No videos. Safety and respect are the essence of club culture. These spaces exist so everyone can be fully themselves. Our team, programming, and community embody our commitment to creating and protecting an environment where diversity, care, and freedom coexist at all times. We do not tolerate harassment, discrimination, or any behavior that goes against that spirit — ever. If you need us, we’re at hello@greenroom.nyc.
