International Lover is Troy Lingelbach’s debut solo show. This is an intimate, confessional theatrical production that tells the artist’s journey of self-acceptance. Through aerial dance and performance art using clothing as storytelling, the artist exposes the conflict of their mind, body, and spirit. This production reimagines the configuration of House of Yes--the audience is seated on the stage, up in balconies, and throughout the room surrounding the action on the dance floor.
Troy found their voice by performing for you, and will now expose the parts of themself you have never seen before by flipping the script and placing you on stage. Using mirrors and spotlights, the artist reflects this meta-contemplation of the performer’s life back at you. By inviting you into their personal evolution, Troy hopes to empower and inspire all artists in attendance. Content Warning: Strong language and sexual content. Themes of body dysmorphia, gender disphoria, and suicide.
“If for just one day, everybody told the truth we’d all trade bank accounts and move 2 Neptune.” Prince
Troy Lingelbach is a staple of the NYC nightlife scene, regularly performing at House of Yes, Company XIV, The Box, The Stranger, and Red Pavillion. Their work teaching and performing has taken them to London, Berlin, Lucerne, Múrcia, Puerto Escondido, and across the United States. Informed by their background in musical theatre, philosophy, dance, and gymnastics, this venture into long form work seeks to boldly share the parts of themself unseen by audiences familiar with their work in cabaret. @troydaboy1
The show will run approximately 2 hours, including 2 intermissions.
