Description
On October 19th we’re excited to open the doors to the basement to turn it into a pulsating hub of House, Deep House, Detroit, and Chicago House for this special night! Join us as we give the Analog Turbosound Wall of Sound a proper workout with none other than our dear friend and legend, Kai Alce'. Originally from New York, Kai Alcé got his start working at Detroit’s legendary Music Institute learning the foundations from one of its foundational sources. By the early 2000s, he had earned releases on respected Detroit labels like Mahogani Music and Track Mode, but with the Detroit scene in decline as worldwide attention shifted elsewhere, the already-experienced DJ set out for Atlanta, historically a capital of black arts but at the time hardly known for house. There he helped forge a new scene, launching his NDATL label in 2008 and attracting local like minds like Stefan Ringer and Ash Lauryn who moved on to become respected artists. While not the first Detroit artist to cement his status through work outside of Motown, Kai’s story has lasting repercussions in the US underground, breaking the Midwest and East Coast’s historical hold on dance music and helping pave the way for the expansion of interest that brought the situation to where it now stands. Now respected as a legend, pioneer, and seasoned veteran in the house scene, he’s also a well-loved guest at Dark Room, so we welcome him back with open arms to take over Dark Rooms Basement. We’re also celebrating two incredible Libras this month: Katrina Mir and Chris Nitti. Katrina and Chris will kick off the night with their expertly curated sounds before Kai takes over. Expect vibes so thick you can cut them with a butter knife—the kind that will move your body and soul and then some!
