Lost & Found: Cleveland Watkiss · Makoto · Dedy Dread · Alite Lost & Found returns to Lisbon for a genre-crossing night at Badassery, bringing together jazz, soul, funk, disco, hip hop, vinyl culture and bass music in one intimate room. The lineup features two major international artists: Cleveland Watkiss from the UK and Makoto from Japan. Born in Hackney, East London, to Jamaican parents, Cleveland Watkiss is one of the great voices of British jazz. A co-founder of the influential Jazz Warriors, winner of the London Jazz Award for Best Vocalist, and three-time Wire/Guardian Jazz Awards Best Vocalist, he has worked with artists including Wynton Marsalis, Art Blakey, Stevie Wonder, Sly & Robbie, Goldie, Fabio & Grooverider. For Lost & Found, Cleveland presents VocalSuite — a live solo voice performance where he builds an entire sound world using only his voice, layering improvisation, harmony, electronics, breakbeat loops and basslines in real time. No two performances are ever the same. Makoto, originally from Tokyo and now based in London, is one of drum & bass music’s most respected international artists. Signed by LTJ Bukem to Good Looking Records in 1999, he became one of the defining figures of melodic, soul-infused drum & bass, with releases on Hospital Records, UKF, DnB Allstars, Liquicity and his own Human Elements imprint. Exclusively for Lost & Found, Makoto performs one of his iconic “influences” disco sets — connecting the soul, funk and disco roots behind his unmistakable sound. Also on the night: Dedy Dread brings funk, soul and hip hop on his iconic tiny 7-inch records, while Alite plays a soulful drum & bass set exclusively on vinyl.
