EVENT BIO — JEFF CLARKE (LIVE) Jeff Clarke is a seeker. From the raw, combustible energy of his garage-rock days in Demon’s Claws and The Black Lips to the bruised, world-weary tenderness that runs through his new solo work Miracle After Miracle After…, the idiosyncratic gospel he carries has always been shaped by hard-won resilience, uncanny innocence, and a restless sense of curiosity. On 11 December, the Canadian songwriter present his new album " Miracle After Miracle After…. " In contrast to his previous solo record Locust, captured in a single session deep in the forest, this new work is more embellished. There is ample room for his strangely melancholic voice and finely woven songwriting, occasionally sharpened by unexpected edges. At its heart, this is folk music. Such traditionally strong songwriting invites easy comparisons (Connie Converse, Daniel Johnston, Atlas Sound) but ultimately renders them reductive. Clarke draws from the same deep well as countless psychic diarists, yet he inhabits that lineage so fully that references feel unnecessary. If he doesn’t break the mold, he stretches it into a shape unmistakably his own.
