Matt Edwards has spent the last several years shaping dance culture through a constellation of aliases, each offering a distinct musical personality. As Matthew E, he delivers peak-time club weapons rooted in an updated, jackin’ Chicago house aesthetic, infused with funk and mechanical edge. Rekid, on the other hand, slows the tempo to a thicker, moodier strain of groove, offering a more deliberate and soulful mid-week energy. His work with Joel Martin as Quiet Village wanders into sample-based, cinematic terrain, drifting between extended disco abstractions and atmospheric soundscapes. Meanwhile, Sea Devils pushes him closest to the pop realm, pairing sleek electronic production with radio-ready hooks.

Radio Slave remains his most iconic moniker, widely recognized in part for the cult-favorite fusion of Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” with New Order’s “Blue Monday.” This identity captures his skill as a DJ and editor, rooted in a philosophy formed during the early acid house era: music meant for dancing, not divided by scene or faction. Beginning with gigs at London’s Milk Bar in the early ’90s and moving through Ministry of Sound, free parties across the UK, and eventually Brighton, Edwards developed a career built on re-edits, remixes, and genre-crossing creativity.

As his studio output expanded, so did his list of pseudonyms, with releases landing on respected labels like Skint, Soul Jazz, Classic, and Whatever We Want, and collaborations with artists such as The Glimmers. Rather than signaling an identity crisis, his many aliases simply reveal the breadth of his imagination. For listeners, the result is straightforward: an ever-growing catalog of music designed to keep dancefloors moving.
