Description
Ūmboma is a global-forward sound experience led by Miss Alicia and Omar Ahmad. Ūmboma blends of Afro, Arab, and Latin contemporary rhythms and energies that run from meditative & psychedelic, to frenetic and pulsing. Omar imbues live world drums into our sets to bridge the connection between the DJ booth and the audience, and we often invite attendees to play instruments we've brought along with us. The word Ūmboma is a combination of Swahili, Arabic, and Spanish words that translates to “ a congregation of Freedom and Dance”. Ultimately we are seeking to cross borders and connect cultures (and spirits) through sound. -- Omar Ahmad is a Palestinian American composer, producer, and sound artist. He is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist whose desire to derive the essential elements of sound has grown towards found-sound immersions, globally-influenced musical storytelling, and lush atmospheric compositions with age. Omar frequently DJ’s with Arab/SWANA party Layit, and recently has contributed DJ sets to Yaeji’s Resistance Stream, Radio Alhara, The Lot Radio, and The Bunker. In 2023 he released his debut album, Inheritance, via AKP Recordings to critical acclaim including BandCamp's Best Ambient and DJ Mag's "Artist You Need to Hear" recognition and followed it in 2024 with a full remix album featuring Tammy Lakkis, Sam O.B., Solpara, and Otodojo among others. -- Miss Alicia is a DJ, organizer, visual artist, and designer. Alicia started DJing during the pandemic with Sweet Kicks, a DIY party and collaboration with Rose Kourts and Karlala, powered by the bright pink Karlala Soundsystem. Since then she has DJ’ed throughout the city at venues such as Good Room, House of Yes, Nowadays, and Jupiter Disco and has also done graphic design for local artists and labels such as razor-n-tape.
