Diafano presents Dimithry Victor Welcome to the Neighborhood

Welcome to the Neighborhood, is a collection of paintings and prints that takes us on a journey through the past while also celebrating the beauty and resilience of Black communities. Through his art, Victor pays homage to his own experiences growing up, as well as those of his neighbors and loved ones. Victor's use of portraits, dynamic landscapes, and still life captures the essence of Black life in all its complexity. Drawing inspiration from history, cartoons, and expressionist masters, he brings a playful and whimsical energy to his work, while infusing it with his own deep emotions and memories. Each piece in this exhibition invites the viewer to step into the world of Black neighborhoods, to witness the everyday moments that make up the fabric of life. We see scenes of childhood innocence, family traditions, and familiar landscapes. We are reminded of the music, fashion, and popular culture of our youth. With scenes ranging from people enjoying parties to getting haircuts at the barbershop, these paintings evoke a profound sense of nostalgia and community that is both heartwarming and inspiring.
