Welcome to Wyrd Wrld, a new event series in Lisboa bringing together a seasoned group of friends from across Europe to showcase a network of artists deeply rooted in the rave continuum. On Friday October 27th, we’ll be hosting our first ever club night at the infamous Arroz Estudios. Soundtracked by DJ Jerome Hill, who has flown over from London for his first appearance in Lisboa for 17 years, alongside a line-up of some of Portugal’s finest rave experimenters, the night strings together a wyrd web of visuals, vibes and sonics. We have very limited early bird tickets available for €8. A limited amount of 2nd release tickets will then be available for €10. After that, the price will be €12 on the door and online. Please note that an Arroz Estúdios membership is required. If you don't have it yet, it costs €3 at the door, and lasts for a year. Wyrd Wrld is an inclusive party that is here to celebrate expression and we therefore operate a zero-tolerance policy towards racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, agism and all forms of discrimination. LINE UP: ** Jerome Hill (UK) ** A cultural leader when it comes to spreading the word, love and appeal of techno music the world over, the UK’s Jerome Hill leads a life dedicated to music. From running five extraordinary and much-loved record labels – DON’T, Super Rhythm Trax, Bleeper, Hornsey Hardcore & Fat Hop – to decades spent managing record shops and playing in clubs, parties and illegal raves all over the world. A technical demon behind the decks, and one of the few to successfully integrate scratching and turntablism into techno and rave – alongside his hip hop, funk and soul sets – Hill’s first priority is always the atmosphere and vibe of the room. Our favourite DJ is one not to be missed. ** Party Smith ** Party Smith’s background reflects the vibrant eclecticism found in record shops, a path ignited in 1998, when she worked in three Lisbon record shops until the early 00s. Selling music to the Portuguese DJ community, she naturally became one herself. Starting out in chillout rooms, the interdisciplinary artist soon adapted her beats to keep pace with Lisbon’s vibrant late 90s techno scene. Shortly after, in 2003, she began a decade-long stint in London, spinning records and organising events in some of the city’s darkest corners. Whether a tripped-out pool party in Sri Lanka to a dark basement in Lisbon, Party Smith keeps the father of the bride, the tecknival freak and the jazz trumpeter alike content in the dance. ** Pedro Beça ** Pedro Beça is somewhat of a household name in Lisboa, having earned his craft through his long-standing Tuesday night residency at the infamous Lounge bar downtown. There in the low light, Beça spins the records he wants, carving out his own house sound through an arsenal of beats, bleeps 'n' breaks, fused together with a heavy dose of crunchy acid. ** VEIA ** Short turns, fluid feelings and heavy heartbeats, VEIA is the manifestation sourced from the cardiovascular pacemaker, set in motion by the dance music conductor’s action potential. VEIA is also a co-founder of the multi-faceted, Almada-based Gruta, a label, platform and production company specializing in the underground rave and freeparty scene.
