Cheo (José Luis Pardo) is a Brooklyn-based artist, guitarist, DJ, songwriter, and producer, best known as the founder of Los Amigos Invisibles. A Latin Grammy winner with ten nominations, he has left a lasting mark on the dance music scene. Starting as a DJ in Caracas in the mid-90s, Cheo’s eclectic taste led to club residencies and remix work. Moving to New York in 2001, he became a fixture in the city’s dance scene, collaborating with legends like Little Louie Vega, Blue Six, and Dimitri from Paris. His 2007 remix compilation Will Work for Fun and 2011 solo album Free showcased his versatility. Beyond solo work, Cheo co-founded bands like Los Crema Paraiso and LOCOBEACH, exploring Venezuelan and world music influences. He has also produced for artists like Rawayana, Okills, and Yordano, mentoring the next generation. His 2019 album Sorpresa marked a return to artistry, with viral success during the pandemic. A key figure in NYC’s Latin music scene, Cheo plays regularly with his live band and founded Latinos del Mundo at NUBLU, bringing live orchestras back to Manhattan’s Latin parties. His influence on Latin dance music continues to grow. To open up the show, Lotus Collective takes the stage for a welcoming set! Lotus Collective is a group of world-class musicians weaving a rich tapestry of jazz, funk, and Latin sounds. Influenced by bands like Los Amigos Invisibles, Jamiroquai, and Tom Misch, their debut album Enter the Flower was produced by Cheo Pardo, former music director of Los Amigos Invisibles and producer of Rawayana. The album’s first single will be released on May 9th at ZeyZey, alongside Cheo. Founded by singer/guitarist Ivan Leyton and bassist/singer Samuel Little, the two previously played together in the Venezuelan band Bomboyash. On keyboards and musical arrangements, Julian Bermudez adds a dynamic presence, while saxophonist Marcelo Romero colors the sound with his brass arrangements. Both Bermudez and Romero bring a strong jazz influence from their time with the New Jazz Collective. Holding down the rhythm is Marvin Clairsaint, a jazz virtuoso on drums and the heartbeat of the band. Dedicated to storytelling through funk, disco, and a deep connection to past music spaces like the former jam sessions at South Point Park, Lotus Collective has been curating a funk event series for 2024-25.
