In January 2025, it was announced that DICE sold Boiler Room to European events giant Superstruct Entertainment and its parent company, US private equity and investment firm KKR. KKR's troublesome investments in military manufacturers like CIRCOR International, property management companies like Guesty (who advertise properties on occupied Palestinian land), as well as Israeli data centers and tech companies, raise a moral issue for any music artist approached to play one of their events. Despite the platform's underground roots, the current ownership and profits go directly against its initial ethos of "upholding international law and human rights for all," which has since prompted a boycott within the club community.
Modeled after our friends in the Bay Area, the goal of Big Apple Solidarity Strike (B.A.S.S.) is to raise a strike fund for artists who have refused an offer or dropped out of Boiler Room's upcoming NYC shows to compensate them for what they've lost for giving up this opportunity. 100% of funds will go directly to the strike fund until the goal is met, after which any extra will be distributed via the New York Cultural Solidarity Project, a trusted organization that has been regularly distributing funds to pro-Palestine boycotters.
There are several tiers of tickets available for a pay-what-you-feel ticketing model and a donation option for folks who can't attend but would like to support. The financial fallout of turning down a large opportunity with a high fee for a full-time artist is real. Historically, Boiler Room parties have launched many DJ careers into high momentum, leading to more bookings & high artist exposure. We want artists to feel the full support of their community in turning down a high-profile, high pay gig like Boiler Room. Artists shouldn't have to accept blood money to pay their bills.
The event will feature tabling by DJs Against Apartheid and New York Cultural Solidarity Project, and has been organized with the support of our partners:
