À propos
We hear a lot about joy as resistance, but this time, we’re doing joy AND resistance. On Saturday, March 21, we’re turning up the volume at Banshee House for a mutual aid and music event that blends sounds, skills, and solidarity. We’re kicking things off with a Know Your Rights workshop followed by a DIY whistle kit session presented with help from Denver Activist Women’s Group. DAWG is an organization for progressively-minded change makers who invest time and energy into the well-being of their local communities - just like us. Join us in cultivating common knowledge - before we dance together, we build together. After education, it’s time for elevation. Visit the brand-new Commons to get schooled in the art of sound by Manos, Miss Flowers, Double Jointed, and Cereus. Looking for something different? Try getting intimate upstairs in the Study with Pulse CTRL, MARS, Flaming Olive, and Frank Frisson. And of course, at any time, tuck into a side room or a corner for some lively discussion about the state of our union. Because we throw parties, not protests, we’ve asked local nonprofits to lead us in spreading the word. We’re also dividing our ticket proceeds from the event between them. Denver Justice Project works to end mass incarceration, reform law enforcement, and fight for racial justice in our courts. Casa de Paz visits detainees in the ICE facility in Aurora along with maintaining a safehouse where recently released detainees can reunite with their family members and safely plan the next step on their journey. We’re grateful to partner with Denver Activist Women’s Group on the educational portion of the event - they’re an organization for progressively-minded change makers who believe in investing time and energy into the well-being of their local communities - just like us. This event is for the space between advocacy and after-hours. We want to see each other on the dance floors and know we can keep our community safe. After all, our culture was built as a refuge. It’s time to rebuild our sanctuaries. Come early. Learn your rights. Stay late. LFG.
