À propos
Planetarium is an event where people come to listen deeply. We ask everyone who attends to remain silent in the listening area and to step outside the space for any conversations. We also ask that there is no phone use in the entire space. If that sounds good to you, read on... - - - - - - - - Planetarium begins its autumn and winter season in the private loft in Ridgewood. We'll gather in front of the hi-fi to spend time together in sound. Bring blankets, sleeping bags, pillows or anything else you'd like to make yourself comfortable. We do a small amount of reservations so that there's room for folks to lie down. For this edition, Justin Carter is joined by Purelink and Eamon Harkin. _/_/_/_/_/_/ PURELINK _/_/_/_/_/_/ Purelink is a New York-based trio known for their distinctive blend of ambient, dub, and electronic experimentation. Their work focuses on atmosphere and rhythm in equal measure—using duration, space, and texture to create music that is grounding and fluid. Their music evolves gradually, with subtle shifts in tone and pulse that immerse and release. In live performance, Purelink emphasize dynamics and detail, shaping their sound in real time to the acoustics of the room. For this edition of Planetarium, they’ll perform on the five-point Klipschorn system, dialing in their enveloping approach to our unique listening environment. _/_/_/_/_/_/ RENA ANAKWE _/_/_/_/_/_/ Rena Anakwe is an interdisciplinary artist, performer, poet, and healer working primarily with sound, visuals, and scent. Exploring intersections between traditional healing practices, spirituality and performance, she creates works focused on sensory-based, experiential interactions using creative technology. She is based in Brooklyn, New York by way of Nigeria and Canada. Rena will DJ tonight, using spiritual jazz, expansive ambient music, new classical compositions and other emotionally charged sounds. _/_/_/_/_/_/ JUSTIN CARTER _/_/_/_/_/_/ Justin Carter is the other co-creator of Planetarium as well as the resident DJ of the series. Justin's practices of space making and music are intertwined, aligning to create moments for community and catharsis. With Planetarium, he builds a world for letting go, together. His tools are a shared meal, scented smoke wafting through the room, tuning forks, shoes placed by the door, candles flickering in the dark, a song sung a capella, records that create vast, detailed scenes in the mind and even the words you are reading now. _/_/_/_/_/_/ DINNER + BYO DRINKS _/_/_/_/_/_/ Dinner will be served by Marisa Mendez Marthaller aka Soup Doula between 7pm and 8pm, when we'll keep the lights up and have a more social hour before we go deep. There will be two soups (one of them vegan) served with hunks of fresh baked bread. Dinner is included with your contribution. (You are welcome to bring your own dinner if you have specific dietary needs.) Otherwise, you can bring your own drinks (and your own cups). We'll have all the creature comforts that you might otherwise need inside, so you never have to leave the bubble we're creating. _/_/_/_/_/_/ MOVEMENT _/_/_/_/_/_/ In this season of Planetarium, we'll be finishing most sessions with an hour of dancing. Gently, as we approach the eleven hour mark, we'll give you a cue to slowly make way to your feet, pull your cushions to the side of the room, and partake in some movement, while still silent and in the dark. It's a special way to come back to earth after going far out. _/_/_/_/_/_/ RESERVATIONS + LOCATION _/_/_/_/_/_/ Because we do Planetarium at a private space, we only send the location info to people who reserve space in advance. We'll send out the location from ask@mistersaturdaynight.com on the morning of the session. Make sure to safe list that email address so you receive the notification. Also, before you make your reservation, be sure to check that the email address you have on file with RA is one that you can actually access. If you have not received this email by noon on Saturday, November 22, but have reserved a spot, search your spam, junk, promotions and other folders for an email from ask@mistersaturdaynight.com. The subject is always something like: "Please Read: All The Info For Planetarium". So you know how to plan, we can tell you it's not too far from Nowadays, less than five minutes from the Halsey L. If reservations are unavailable when you are looking, activate the notification function on this page, and you'll get an email if space becomes available. The resale system stays open and active until noon on the day before the event. After that, all reservations have to be final so that we can ensure that everyone who reserves space gets the address. We're looking forward to getting lost in sound with you. Until then...
