Lex Records presents the launch of ShunGu’s new album ‘Faith in The Unknown’, with a special live performance featuring Shungu and friends. Support comes from ‘Faith in The Unknown’ guest vocalist Goya Gumbani & more TBA. Shungu has carved out a singular space for himself as an innovative, revered voice in the underground hip-hop landscape, blending jazz-infused sampling with cosmic grooves. That personality and distinct ear for instrumentals has cultivated a sense of community across his records with the likes of Pink Siifu, Fly Anakin, YUNGMORPHEUS and more finding a home in his beats. The Belgian producer has served as an accomplished custodian of this community for years, playing the role of an artist who is both deeply rooted in the underground scene and a pioneering force in driving it forward. ShunGu’s critically acclaimed debut album ‘A Black Market Album’ was described by Pitchfork as “perfectly chosen drums and subtle swagger, reminiscent of nothing so much as golden-age Slum Village and other pre-Donuts J. Dee classics.” The new album represents a long held dream to capture a community of inspiring voices, energies and sensibilities on record. That community includes frequent collaborators Pink Siifu, Liv.e, Navy Blue, Fly Anakin, Maxo, dreamcastmoe, Goya Gumbani, Fatima, Chester Watson, Ruqqiyah, and ZEKEULTRA. The spirit of dialogue and discovery is what defines ‘Faith in The Unknown’. The album is both a bold statement of identity and an invitation into Shungu’s world. Goya Gumbani has performed across the UK, Europe and America as a 5 piece band, solo and a DJ, developing a powerful rapport with his audience. His reputation for fun, raucous sets blend Jazz, Hip Hop and Soul with a personal style. Goya has supported and appeared alongside a cast of underground greats including : Roc Marciano, Yaya Bey, Mavi, Lord Apex, Moor Mother, Speakers Corner Quartet and Billy Woods. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Goya Gumbani’s relocation to South London in his teens opened a new world of possibilities. Operating within various musical collectives in both London and New York, Goya has brought authentic New York Hip-Hop to multiple collaborations and features including : Joe Armon-Jones, Fatima, John Glacier, lojii, Joy Orbison, MIKE, Seafood Sam and Pink Siifu.
