We are grateful to be celebrating 4 years of ubiyu as a record label and party series. We are pleased to host Afriqua, Federico Molinari, and our resident Daniel Allen on Friday, April 28th 2023 in downtown Austin at Club Eternal. Afriqua Afriqua (AKA Adam Longman Parker) crafts his mercurial productions with an eye to the future and an ear to the past. At a young age, he straddled the seemingly disparate worlds of classical music and hip-hop, studying piano works while developing his skills as a producer and DJ. Diving into turntablism and b-boy culture, he performed alongside pioneers Jazzy Jay, Grandwizard Theodore, and Grandmaster Caz, formative experiences that evolved into a natural versatility behind the decks. Born and raised in Virginia, Parker was inspired by the productions of local legends The Neptunes, Timbaland, and Missy Elliot. He went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London by day, while receiving the essential nightlife education of institutions like Fabric and Plastic People. He moved to Berlin a few years later, embracing the city’s rich musical offerings. His early productions as Afriqua caught the attention of independent labels including 2nd Drop Records, Souvenir, and All Inn, where he explored sounds both firmly within the house/techno sphere and unmistakably beyond it. 2017 marked the beginning of an exclusive relationship with R&S Records. Standout tracks “Soul Correction,” “Chronic Cool,” and his R&S debut “Aleph” have been DJ and crowd favorites alike, and exemplify Parker’s approach to production: weaving deep samples into spacey sonic tapestries, honoring black heritage while propelling it into the future. Federico Molinari Argentinian-born Federico Molinari has early roots in music. Originally trained as a bass guitarist, he has long been into jazz and other musical directions. Before he started to experiment with electronic music. In the early 90s Federico moved to Germany, where he met Nekes, Ray Okpara and Johnny D. The guys then spent several years together in Mannheim, while they were managing the Zoo Club and playing all around the Frankfurt/Main area. Later Federico found himself at Freebase Records, where he was dealing with fine tunes for a couple of years. During this time, he and Nekes decided to found OSLO Records, to find a way to express their own idea of electronic music, as well as to have a homebase for own productions and those of friends. Quickly OSLO became one of the hottest underground imprints and gained attention not only in Europe, but all over the world for its superb and original releases. For several years now, Federico Molinari has been travelling all around the globe. He became a respected and frequently booked artist and is a well known character in the scene. He has released several EPs on labels as Raum...Musik, Tsuba and others in recent years. In 2013 he moved to Berlin. Federico is also involved in several art projects with international multimedia artists.
