Techno is trapped in a time paradox, echoing the same frequencies over and over since the year 19XX. VAST has set out to change this. Contemplating a new path forward, the record label and event organizer works to break the closed feedback loop imposed upon underground electronic music.
Activated by Portland-based artist Spencer Hardwick in the year 2024, VAST challenges the sonic status quo by transmitting a compelling interference
pattern. It provides a platform for artist visionaries who embark on brave, new frontiers in the medium of techno, exploring uncharted territory while remaining faithfully anchored to the genre’s specialist aesthetic. Such a forward-thinking influence is long overdue. It is needed now more than ever.
Planet Earth’s waveforms have collapsed into a dystopian timeline. We envisioned the Information Age broadening our horizons as a species, but humanity now finds itself suspended in the very World Wide Web meant to liberate us. The blessing of our era may well be that technology has placed a wealth of knowledge right at our fingertips. The curse is that it has made us forget how to reach out to one another nonetheless.
Inhabitants of the sterile cityscapes rapidly engulfing our planet are increasingly subject to mind control from a multitude of channels. Nefarious algorithms dictate our every thought and desire, while the rise of sentient, machine-learning applications barrels us closer and closer to an unprecedented singularity.
We hold out hope nonetheless. It is within our power to break free from the thought patterns that hold us back. Together, we can program vibrations that initiate a consciousness shift.
VAST is not limited to audio recordings. It is also an event banner that builds upon the blueprint of worldwide counterculture movements by providing creative spaces open to people from all walks of life. Our shackles break away in these environments, where invisible walls no longer divide us. Groundbreaking ideas freely take shape in the absence of our inhibitions and biases. This is the way it was meant to be.
We’ve barely scratched the surface of what is possible when we come together and pool our collective energy. Techno is still the future, and the future is VAST.
