It’s a space for those who still believe in the dancefloor, where music is played with intention, and every track means something. For this edition, we’re bringing back a big headline from Amsterdam, resident at Doka and true selector. Mendel weaves together different rhythms, intensities and emotions with precision and passion. His captivating sets reflect a broad spectrum of music plucked from anywhere in the last fifty years, from sweet boogie steppers and high-energy disco to deeper house, moody electro, and gritty acid tracks. Though his dance floors always move through moments of euphoria, Mendel favours the sensual moments over fist-pumping fixations. His party, and life philosophy is to transcend quick entertainment and strive for something meaningful. This ethos resonates with audiences worldwide who seek genuine and heartfelt experiences. Whether playing on a wild boat, a big festival stage or in the darkness of an intimate club, Mendel’s sensitive perception and proficiency, honed over two decades of experience, are ever evident. Born and raised in Amsterdam, Mendel bought his first record player from a market stall at Waterlooplein at the age of 11. He played his first sets at hip-hop joints De Duivel and Bitterzoet as a teen and immersed himself in the city’s rich cultural tapestry of record storesand nightlife. Working at Waxwell Records further broadened his musical horizon, and he soon began organising nights and playing in venues throughout Europe. Since 2018, Mendel has been running Ciranda, a community-driven event series. Ciranda holds a residency at Doka, one of Amsterdam’s most audio-forward venues, and has hosted multiple outdoor editions as well as events in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and London. Ciranda’s programming platforms upcoming talent, unsung heroes, and the occasional legend, while its loyal and diverse dancers bring a truly special, warm energy that is hard to come by. As a producer, Mendel is known for his respectful approach to editing and remixing, emphasising the beauty of the original without imprinting his ego onto an existing piece of music. His works on labels like Kalita Records, Rush Hour Recordpool, and Notes On A Journey, have found their way into many discerning record bags, appreciated for their meticulous craftsmanship. Mendel is currently working on a debut EP, the next step in a long line of quality and loving output.
