Very excited to start a new series called Elements... Periodic elements to be exact. Starting it off with The Advent. THE ADVENT: London-based Cisco Ferreira, or ‘The Advent’, can be described in many ways: a musician, a pioneer, a sound designer, a steady force, one persistent m*therf*cker, a rebel, an icon, an outsider, a great live artist... Mostly though, The Advent is known for his interpretation of what we call Techno. Ever since young Portuguese Cisco discovered Acid House in the London clubs he frequented, his journey has been about making his mark on the electronic music scene. Or, as he recently put it himself: “I’ve been doing this for quite a few years and I’m not going anywhere.” This sums it up pretty well; you won’t see Ferreira naked, shooting promo videos carrying a dog, or hear him publically worrying about the sincerity of the average EDM jockey. He’s everything about techno you’ve learned to love, without the circus you’ve learned to accept. JOSH MANKE: doesn’t pay much mind to what records he’s supposed to play. There’s a perfect track for every moment and he’ll cue it up no matter the genre. More than two decades into his career as a DJ, he knows better than to question his intuition. Although most closely associated with Denver’s techno scene, Josh’s extensive music knowledge spans electro, breaks, house, and styles that don’t fit neatly into any category. His highly technical mixing weaves each selection into a seamless sonic tapestry set alight by his contagious stage presence. He’s a familiar face at parties organized by crews like P.U.N.C.H.I.S., The Underground, and Flatline Productions. Humble and genuine, he lets the music speak for itself. BRIAN ESS: Having left his punk and metal roots upon exposure to the rave scene in the late '90s, he knew he had to pick up some turntables and figure out this way to tell stories that make people move. He started DJing in 1997. Moving through a career in progressive house, he kept looking and landed on the harder flavors of techno. Whether melodic or tone based, heavy and hypnotic, or simply having fun making a racket in the club or warehouse, his selection is always tough and moving. His hardcore roots show through with attitude in his long, relentless blends.
