Montreuil welcomes Kode9, upsammy and Jon K for a special night of propulsive, mutant club hybrids and other full-frontal sounds.
Kode9 (Hyperdub)
Kode9 is a DJ/Producer, artist and writer. He set up the record label Hyperdub in 2004, and in 2019 the sub-label Flatlines to focus on audio essays and sonic fiction. He has released 5 albums, and numerous DJ mix compilations, including most recently Fabric 100 with Burial. In addition to his record label Hyperdub, he has released tracks on Fabric Originals, Aphex Twin’s Rephlex label, Soul Jazz and Rinse. He has remixed for Mr. Fingers, Lee Scratch Perry, Battles and Dabrye/MF Doom among others. His book Sonic Warfare (2009) will be published in French in Sept 2023 and sound installations have been presented as part of the Hyundai commission at the Tate Modern (2018) and the Barbican 'AI: More than Human' in London (2019).
upsammy (PAN)
Guided by an adventurous and narrative approach, this vividness is also present in her DJ sets. The music she plays takes cues from trippy electronics, the more experimental side of DnB and oddball techno, but tries to avoid clear genres. As a DJ she consolidated a firm position in the contemporary left-field music world, which includes a residency at NTS Radio and Amsterdam club Garage Noord and invitations to festivals such as Unsound and Rewire.
Jon K (MAL Recordings)
A stalwart of the underground music scene for over 20 years, Jon K has proven himself a pioneering force in contemporary British dance music with sold-out mixtapes for many labels including TTT / Cav Empt / $hotta Tapes & Reel Torque. When he’s not running MAL Recordings (alongside Elle Andrews) or pulling together his monthly 'Peking Spring' show on NTS Radio, you’re most likely to catch Jon K playing raucous DIY spots and hubs across the world, from London, Marseilles, New York and Tokyo to Manchester’s The White Hotel where he is currently a resident of the Mire parties.
