Willow Gatewood's Performance "Planetary Listening: a deep listening series exploring kinship to the living Earth through more-than-human songcraft" Join environmental scientist and interdisciplinary sound artist Willow for a performance series where deep listening meets ecological wonder. Willow weaves intimate art-pop, field recordings, and musical improvisation made in collaboration with plants and fungi through a process called biosonification to immerse the listener in a provocative sonic ecosystem and inspire connection between ourselves and the living, breathing Earth. In this special edition of Planetary Listening, we tune into shifting tides and migratory murmations that fill December's water and air. While frosted mornings may seem frozen still, winter is a time for movement and change. From right whales and albatrosses to spider crabs and phytoplankton, the ocean wakes in a symphony of animals embarking. At a planetary scale, the Earth readies for a subtle but profound change: the winter solstice, which, in the Northern Hemisphere, marks the end of the sun's ebbing and the beginning of her return. Winter is a time for tides, for flux and rebirth. Tune in and listen closely. What in the world is calling out for change? What echoes back in you?
