Whether playing at an intimate club, a packed festival, a dark warehouse, or a sunrise deep in the Burning Man Playa, her hypnotic, cerebral & experimental sounds induce the audience into an altered state, track by track, always leaving them with an incessant lust for more. Growing up in a house where the warm melodies of old records constantly filled the air, the Southern California-born Tara began absorbing music at a very early age. Music runs through her blood as her mom plays piano & sings, while her English father sings and plays guitar. She grew up having a love and appreciation for everything from indie rock, classic, to 90’s rock, from hip-hop to punk and everything in between. But it was within the Los Angeles underground dance scene where Tara ultimately found her calling. Struck by the power of the music and the loving vibe of the scene, Tara immediately knew she had to be a part of it. Being a DJ first inspired her to express herself by making her own music, Tara's ethos is to help and heal others through sound, to take others on an experimental & innovative journey, and to utilize her passion and gifts. Tara started her production path learning with friends & over the years her hard work, experimentation, and risk taking created her unique & wide range of sounds & styles. She brings her original perspective to the studio, creating an incredibly diverse infrastructure that ranges from psychedelic soulful house to the heavier side of groovy acid techno, and all things in between. Her focus on the delicate interplay of pleasurable highs and dynamic lows while delivering a blend of trippy & dancing drums, lush melodies and enchanting atmospherics has created a new breed of sound that boasts a familiar yet futuristic vibe that is unforgivably and unmistakably Tara Brooks. Having become one of the new breed of innovative DJ's has been a steady ascent from the Underground to performing at some of the most respected par<es. From creating "Eunoia", her first EP on Digweed's seminal label- Bedrock to her latest EP “Wake Me”, which charted #1 in melodic house & techno February 2020, the releases are critically acclaimed, resulting in a beautiful explosion & greater exposure worldwide. Tara has a rich tapestry to her sets, and they cover so many different moods and soundscapes, her sets are an emotional expression of a modern and futuristic fusing of genres. She is a Detroit native with over 28 years behind the turntables, synthesizers and drum machines. Michelle was drawn to music and the creative side of life from the beginning. She was fortunate to find her way into the early 90’s Detroit techno scene when the energy was awe inspiring, from that moment Punisher emerged. As a record aficionado, her preference behind the decks is playing vinyl and her knowledge of records is vast. Her studio tracks are devoted to hardware, analog gear and spontaneous live mix downs. A strong understanding of machines and midi programming allows her to perform powerful, dance floor igniting, live PA sets that take you on a journey through hypnotic, cerebral soundscapes. Michelle released her first two records in 1997 on Detroit label Matrix and has since appeared on over 40 different releases on internationally recognized labels including Detroit Underground, Synewave, Denied Music, As.If. and her own imprints Hej Records and Seismic. While mainly focused on techno and house, Michelle has the ability to play across multiple genres from open to close. Punisher has rocked the dance floor at clubs and festivals all over the globe including the coveted Movement festival in Detroit and Where Are My Keys. She’s performed alongside world renowned acts such as Sebastian Mullaert, Marcel Dettmann, Daniel Avery, Richie Hawtin and The Orb. Michelle will continue to travel where the music takes her in pursuit of musical enlightenment.
