Drama Bar presents: Aly Eissa — The Fruit Fly
Drama is proud to welcome emerging artist Aly Eissa, a singular voice from Cairo’s experimental music scene. Blending deep roots in Egyptian classical and folk traditions with a fluid, boundary-pushing sensibility, Eissa reimagines the oud as a vessel for both tradition and transformation. This is queer artistry woven through ancient sound.
In The Fruit Fly, Eissa offers an immersive, unbroken musical experience—part ritual, part meditation. Inspired by the overlooked beauty of fruits and fleeting pleasures, the piece drifts through repetitive motifs and expansive melodies, crafting a soundscape that feels both ancient and intimate, grounded and ethereal.
With each performance improvised and unique, The Fruit Fly is less a concert and more a slow unraveling of time, space, and self. Come listen closely—and maybe dissolve a little.
Aly Eissa (b. 1993) is a oud player, composer, and improviser based in Cairo. Self-taught and mentored by masters Abdo Dagher and Hazem Shahin, his work spans Egyptian classical and folk traditions, bending them into meditative, often hypnotic new forms. Since 2012, Eissa has been sharing his compositions solo and with ensembles, crafting deeply atmospheric, emotionally charged performances.
Survivors of past performances strongly suggest you stay 'til the end.
