Spring is in the air and summer is on the horizon, and CHOICES is embracing the heat of the season with another sweaty dance party! Join us for CHOICES: What’s Your Code? on May 11 at Denver Eagle, this time featuring local favorite, Libuše, with support from CHOICES co-hosts and Denver Eagle residents, Honeycat. Leather bars like the Denver Eagle where we (Honeycat) have our Friday night residency are part of a long tradition of creating spaces for queer self-expression, liberation, community, and of course, cruising. This party’s theme and decor will take inspiration from an iconic accessory within that history and culture: the handkerchief. Whether you’re a veteran of the hanky code or new to the practice, this CHOICES party will be an opportunity to broadcast what makes you feel good, express yourself on the expanded backroom dancefloor and patio space, and let your flags fly! CHOICES branded bandanas will be provided to all advance ticket purchasers, but feel free to bring your own. 10 PM to 2 AM, *limited $5 early bird tickets* (price will increase to $10 when those are sold out), $10 cover at the door. Advance ticket purchase comes with a hand printed CHOICES logo bandana, and early bird access to purchase tickets for our first CHOICES Pride After Hours Party coming on June 21. *About Libuše* Libuše is a name that implies vision, potential, and growth, as borrowed from Czech mythology where it names a princess who is said to have foreseen the construction of the city of Prague. For DJ and producer Gwendolyn Kubik, the alias of Libuše carries these concepts from her family’s Czech heritage and incorporates them into her art as an affirmation of all she seeks to be. With her roots drawing on formative influences in Denver’s Drum & Bass and Hardcore scenes, Libuše now seeks to imbue her DJ sets with a unique energy all her own, favoring sonics that are expansive, emotive, and enrapturing. So too are her sets marked by a consistent sense of levity, a characteristic she considers critical even as she delivers the low-frequency sonic sequences within which she has long made her home. As a proud transgender woman, Libuše has long known the dancefloor to be a place of community, connection, and care for all those who may lack such vital energies in their lives beyond. As such, she seeks to shepherd these spaces for the care of all, in service of the vast potential for collective joy that her vision holds.
