It's time to say goodbye to the summer and what better place than Tommy's Dyke Bar? Expect a night of dancing, glimmer, glitz, all under the disco ball. Find a date, bring a date, you won't be lonely: our dyke cupids will be in charge of rose deliveries (remember the candy canes from Mean Girls?), come by their table before midnight, write a note for the dyke you got your eye on and direct our dyke cupid to them, will this be a compliment? an invitation to dance? choose your own adventure. Make new friends, meet new cute faces, dance the night away to the sounds of surprise DJs and our very own live band performing prom hits and more. Our Best Dressed contest winners will be selected by our panel of dyke experts during our slow dance at midnight so dress to impress. Category is old school Butches/Studs & Femmes, think tailored suits and ties, leather jackets and black tie attire, pretty dresses and silk, challenging the gender norms by performing whatever feels right to you, 1950s lesbian bars, a reflection and celebration of the dykes that came before us! Why is fundraising important to our dyke community? Lesbian-led fundraising has been a cornerstone of LGBTQ+ activism, often emerging in times of crisis and solidarity with other marginalized groups. In the 1980s, during the HIV/AIDS epidemic, lesbians, raised hundreds of donations and inspired similar groups across the U.S. When the world abandoned our own, we were the ones to show up. This time a % of our ticket sales is going towards AIDS/HIV prevention in South Florida in observance of Southern HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (August 20th) and National HIV/AIDS & Aging Awareness Day (September 18th) We have a history of solidarity with our communities and Tommy’s is our way to continue that legacy in the pursue of queer joy and actually tangible community building. A reminder that this event centers and celebrates dykes of all paths and life experiences. This is one of the very few nights a month we are able to gather and celebrate each other while centering dykehood, if you don't identify as a dyke please be mindful of the space you occupy as an ally or non-dyke identifying member of the LGBTQ+ community. Free RSVPs for Black & Trans dykes are available upon request, DM us on Instagram for more information.
