Descrição
Planetarium is an event for listening deeply. We ask everyone who attends to remain silent in the listening area and to step outside the space for any conversations. We also ask that there is no phone use in the entire space. If that sounds good to you, read on... _/_/_/_/_/_/ Planetarium returns to the private loft in Ridgewood for its first April sessions. On this evening, we'll present a Planetarium experience in its traditional form: four hours of deep listening, featuring a live set by Carlos Niño & Friends, and DJ sets by Planetarium residents Rena Anakwe and Justin Carter. (Night two will feature two full concerts by Carlos & Friends, still with a meal and space to lie down and spread out.) Amps and a sub from EM/IA are paired with five Klipschorns in the space. (It sounds amazing.) Bring pillows, blankets, sleeping bags and whatever else you need to go spread out and deep. We do a small amount of reservations so that there's room to lie down. _/_/_/_/_/_/ CARLOS NIÑO & FRIENDS _/_/_/_/_/_/ A prolific album producer, expansive percussionist, experimental composer, connector and communicator, Carlos Niño is known primarily for his main project, Carlos Niño & Friends, and for his extensive work on André 3000's New Blue Sun project. This is Carlos's second year joining us at Planetarium, but we have been following Carlos's progression for over twenty years, when he was producing under the aliases Ammoncontact, Build An Ark and The Life Force Trio. We were in touch occasionally through those years but reconnected again more recently as we began to talk about bringing IASOS to New York. IASOS was one of Carlos's mentors and one of his best friends, and Carlos helped us bring the pioneering new age musician and interdimensional conduit for the last east coast live date he ever played. It would be a major understatement to say that we are elated to welcome Carlos and some yet to be named collaborators. We don't yet know who they'll be, but on that list are artists like Marshall Allen, Adam Rudolph, Darius Jones, Meshell Ndgeocello, Kaoru Watanabe, Laraaji, Sam Gendel. It's a vast and deep crew. _/_/_/_/_/_/ RENA ANAKWE _/_/_/_/_/_/ Rena Anakwe is an interdisciplinary artist, performer, poet, and healer working primarily with sound, visuals, and scent. Exploring intersections between traditional healing practices, spirituality and performance, she creates works focused on sensory-based, experiential interactions using creative technology. She is based in Brooklyn, New York by way of Nigeria and Canada. Rena will DJ tonight, using spiritual jazz, expansive ambient music, new classical compositions and other emotionally charged sounds. _/_/_/_/_/_/ JUSTIN CARTER _/_/_/_/_/_/ Justin Carter is the other co-creator of Planetarium as well as the architect of the series and its ever present resident. Justin's practices of space making and music are intertwined, aligning to create moments for community and catharsis. With Planetarium, he builds a world for letting go, together. His tools are a shared meal, scented smoke wafting through the room, tuning forks, shoes placed by the door, candles flickering in the dark, a song sung a capella, records that create vast, detailed scenes in the mind and even the words you are reading now. _/_/_/_/_/_/ DINNER + BYO DRINKS _/_/_/_/_/_/ Dinner will be served by Marisa Mendez Marthaller aka Soup Doula between 7pm and 8pm, when we'll keep the lights up and have a more social hour before we go deep. There will be two soups (one of them vegan) served with hunks of fresh baked bread. Dinner is included with your contribution. (You are welcome to bring your own dinner if you have specific dietary needs.) Otherwise, you can bring your own drinks (and your own cups). Just avoid cans. (The crack when they open is loud.) We'll have all the creature comforts that you might otherwise need inside, so you never have to leave the bubble we're creating. _/_/_/_/_/_/ RESERVATIONS + LOCATION _/_/_/_/_/_/ Because we do Planetarium at a private space, we only send the location info to people who reserve space in advance. We'll send out the location from ask@mistersaturdaynight.com on the morning of the session. Make sure to safe list that email address so you receive the notification. Also, before you make your reservation, be sure to check that the email address you have on file with RA is one that you can actually access. If you have not received this email by noon on Friday, April 3, but have reserved a spot, search your spam, junk, promotions and other folders for an email from ask@mistersaturdaynight.com. The subject is always something like: "Please Read: All The Info For Planetarium". So you know how to plan, we can tell you it's not too far from Nowadays, less than five minutes from the Halsey L. If reservations are unavailable for this weekend's events when you are looking, activate the notification function on this page, and you'll get an email if space becomes available. The resale system opens after all dates in a weekend are sold out and stays active until noon on the day before the event. After that, all reservations have to be final so that we can ensure that everyone who reserves space gets the address. We're looking forward to getting lost in sound with you. Until then...
