This February, SPIELRAUM presents its first full-venue takeover. The Amsterdam collective has been one of the leading lights of forward-thinking techno and queer community in its hometown. Following a standout collaboration with WIRE this past spring, SPIELRAUM invites some of their residents, alongside Pablo Bozzi and some of the club’s key NY artists. Mama Snake’s reputation is beyond reproach. The Raum resident and Amniote Editions founder has been one of the major driving forces in Copenhagen’s modern club renaissance. One of the first to reexamine trance through a modern lens, Mama Snake has pioneered an expansive sound that bridges the soaring melodicism that defines the genre with heavy, warehouse-ready techno, all tied together with an artful touch. She’s joined by SPIELRAUM resident RÆZA, making his debut in the club. The Berlin-based French-Malagasy artist has built his name on the strength of his molten sets. Drawing on the best of the genre's golden era, RÆZA invokes a tunneling urgency that is unerringly gripping. BASEMENT resident LYDO matches the intensity while adding a dose of exploratory psychedelia and penetrating mystery. The X-TRA.Services founder has established themselves as a veritable pillar of the NY underground, with a history of cross-Atlantic collaboration with other mainstays of the Copenhagen scene. Pablo Bozzi is one of the most beloved names in modern house. Evolving from italo-tinged neo disco into propulsive floor fillers which owe no small debt to progressive strains, Bozzi has a seemingly endless capacity to make the retro feel au courant and to flip a genre wonderfully on its head. His recent “Higher” is a diva-house anthem for the moment that could simultaneously hold its own at the close of the ‘90s without breaking a sweat. No matter the mood board, Bozzi makes it work with impeccable style and effortless conviction. Like RÆZA, Faustin also represents SPIELRAUM and also makes his debut in the club. The Rotterdam-based artist draws from a deep well of trippy, verdant house and undulating, hypnotic groove. There’s a lush, heady core to his sound that breathes with delectable elegance, inviting both introspective journeying and expressive movement. Meilgaarden completes the lineup. One of STUDIO’s most prominent voices, Meilgaarden pushes the pedal subtly to the metal.
