Come and join us for a glass or six and laugh along with Tania, Umberto and the Somebody People crew! Italian importer, Umberto Cantamessa is passionate about wine. From a young age, growing up in the Piedmont region of Italy, Umberto was exposed to some of the very best wines in the world. This whetted his appetite for more knowledge and more access to great wines. Currently, WSET Level 2, Umberto started his career in his family's restaurant in ALBA (Piemonte) and then worked in a winery in Barbaresco, which gave him 360-degree experience (from export to harvest to work in the cellar to sales). He currently lives in Italy. In 2019, he began his work with RIBEVI, an Italian wine importer to the US. Umberto sees the role of RIBEVI as a caretaker for these small, family-owned wineries. He knows every winemaker in their portfolio; now they are part of his family. He loves representing their work here in the US and meeting all the wine lovers in Colorado. "What I love more about wines is the history. Not only the tasting notes (which are still very important) but the history behind a grape, a region, and the terroir. It's part of the philosophy of RIBEVI, which translates to "Drink it Again!". Our goal in this is to support the winemakers who work the land, who respect the earth, and who make great wines for all people. All these Italian wines were selected to showcase cultivars and producers not regularly available to most of us. Camossi Franciacorta This is a lush, gorgeous sparkling wine, unique to Italy. Moser Trento Muller Thurgau The Moser family’s cultural roots lie in the Cembra Valley. Farming traditions, hard work, a deep love for one’s land, innovative yet simple methods, their wines are the expression of these values. Masseria Frattasi The peoples of Crete brought the vine in the first Greek colonization in these lands, three thousand years ago. Taburno Falanghina The oldest white grape in Europe. The wine label comes from the work of a renowned 18th century ceramist. Drink it and you think of Hawthorn Flowers, a very elegant white wine. Aglianico A gorgeous earthy red with strong tannins that shows the terroir of this region beautifully. Racconti Monferrato Nebbiolo A lovely red with robust tannins and high acidity. A red wine perfectly paired with a mezze.
