You can tell that by his music, be it's the doleful, dubby remixes of Maya Jane Coles, Gerry Read or Sei A he's turned in, or the garage-tinged originals he has crafted for Skream's Disfigured Dubz and London's non-specific bass hub, 2nd Drop. Of course, there's also the notable "1988" (the first thing he ever produced and which was never intended to see the light of day) and a remix of Dusky's "Lost in You" which regularly gets spun in the dusty dungeons of Berlin's Berghain. But none of these really sum-up the reticent Leeds lad, for his loosely house and bass leaning sound is forever on the move. On his lauded album There is No Right Time, he takes inspiration from artists like Four Tet and Leon Vynehall, stepping up his sound design to incorporate a rich mixture of synthesizers, scratchy samples, and physical instruments like electric guitar and a drum kit as he explores a broader-than-usual range of tempos and rhythms. As a result of these lush and introspective textures and enthralling rhythms, he now boasts over 100,000 plays/month on Spotify alone, a testament to its quality. Beginning his music career as one half of the acclaimed house music duo Need & Necessity, Ross went on to develop his sound and solo career in 2016. Frequently releasing records finding their way quickly into Beatport’s Top 10 release charts, his tracks have been included in sets from names such as Richie Hawtin, Marco Carola, and many more. A producer at heart with a studied background in percussion, the hallmark to his style is Kiser’s manipulation of layered polyrhythms. Bumping deep tech-house with house and jazz roots, his grooves make the monotony seem not-monotonous if you weren’t dancing too hard to think about things like that. Believe it or not, he always steps behind the decks with a simple intention: to smile and have fun. Peter ignores fleeting trends, sticking instead to the soulful style of deep house that has remained his calling card over the past decade. He’s well versed nonetheless, equipped to play everything from techno to drum and bass on the spot if the setting calls for it. Recent years have seen him grow even more deeply rooted in the underground. He’s a repeat booking at Denver clubs like 1134 and Bar Standard. A track plays that will freeze the current moment in your mind as an immortal snapshot of the night. You didn’t even notice it come in — but now that it’s here, it commands your full attention. Glancing at the booth, you see Peter bobbing casually to the rhythm, a knowing grin radiating from his face. The groove is his heartbeat and soul is his guiding star. It’s plain to see, and even easier to hear. For a sample of the Denver underground, look no further than Peter Vaughan. Trends come and go with the ebbs and flows of dance music, but rest assured he’s not going anywhere. https://soundcloud.com/peter_vaughan
