About

What Are We Made Of? What would two alien robots on a mission to Earth learn about the human species? This is the question behind WAWMO?, the second album by ATOEM, the duo formed by Gabriel Renault and Antoine Talon. Following Entropy (2023), which blended science, history and electronic music, they explore metaphysical questions at a time when humanity seems bent on self-destruction. Having met at university in Rennes through a shared love of psychedelic rock, techno and modular synths, they built their sound around a machine Antoine made for his degree, which remains at the heart of their music. Designed for the stage, ATOEM has played Trans Musicales, Solidays and Vieilles Charrues, and performed in China, India, Lebanon and Germany (Fusion Festival, Sisyphos). Faster, more mechanical and more club-oriented than its predecessor, WAWMO? summons Orwell, Hamlet and Pink Floyd, from techno-punk trance to post-French Touch ballad. Mixed by Mitch (Justice, Voyou, Juliette Armanet), the album follows two vocoded robot voices as they examine humanity down to its flaws. "In perfection, there is no sincerity and no poetry."
