Hit follow to be the first to know when new dates go live!
The Parisian indie rock quartet Pop Crimes will release their debut album "Gathered Together" on November 17, 2023, through Howlin' Banana Records, Safe in The Rain Records, and Les Disques du Paradis. Pop Crimes was formed in 2019, with members Romain (formerly of En Attendant Ana), Morgane (formerly of Blondi’s Salvation), Nicolas (from Young Like Old Men), and Quentin. Their first EPs, "Debuts," arrived shortly after, signed with Howlin' Banana. It harks back to the early indie sound of Creation Records or Sarah Records. They played numerous concerts, opening for acts like The Murder Capital, Mourn, Night Beats, Dignan Porch, The Homesick, Justin Sullivan (Flatworms, Kevin Morby), and more. Their new album explores themes like self-confidence ("No More Cryin") and anger ("Nothing Has Changed"), old friendships ("My Friends / Please Come Back In The Game"), past memories ("All That Time"), and the search for a form of serenity ("Do Colors Last"). It feeds into itself, making each listen more dense and complex. Musically, you can hear shades of Stephen Malkmus and his crew with their intertwining noisy guitars and slightly off-key vocals; Ray Davies, for the energy of the choruses, changes in tone, and commitment to the harmonies; and Nick Cave, with his Bad Seeds and Boys Next Door, for the piano and Rhodes arrangements, feedback, and cavernous reverbs. Rowland S. Howard is there, watching with a cigarette in hand, till the end of the night.
