Max Oleartchik is a bassist, composer, and improviser best known for his work with Big Thief, where his melodic, grounded playing helps shape the band’s intimate and expansive sound. Alongside his work in indie rock, he’s an active presence in New York’s creative music scene, drawing from modern jazz, free improvisation, and experimental forms. His projects as a bandleader and collaborator reflect a fluid approach to rhythm and harmony, balancing deep groove with open-ended exploration.
