DJ and producer Marcel Dettmann is recognized as one of the most influential proponents of contemporary techno. Widely associated with iconic places such as Berlin, Berghain, and Hard Wax, Dettmann stays true to his roots while consistently innovating his interpretation of electronic music and integrating art with the scene.
Active since the mid-’90s, Dettmann tirelessly searches for new ideas and inspiration to further develop his own concept of electronic music. His labels MDR (Marcel Dettmann Records) and Bad Manners serve as platforms for shaping his musical vision and launching new talent onto the techno scene. As a curator and producer, Dettmann fosters a creative approach that is both timeless and innovative. His own releases include three albums on Ostgut Ton and, most recently, his first album in ten years, Fear of Programming, via Dekmantel Records.
Outside of the club context, Marcel Dettmann has established himself as a multifaceted artist. He designed the sound concept for New Works, an exhibition by photographer Friederike von Rauch, and contributed to the contemporary dance project Masse, alongside Frank Wiedemann and choreographer Nadja Saidakowa, in cooperation with Berghain and the Berlin State Ballet. His single “Seduction feat. Emika” provided the soundtrack to director and screenwriter Parker Ellerman’s short film of the same name. He also contributed to the soundtrack of The Matrix Resurrections, directed by Lana Wachowski, in 2021.
