Skemer is the cooperation between singer Kim Peers and guitarist Mathieu Vandekerckhove formed in 2019. They soon discovered that their individual strengths complemented each other perfectly. Two very different worlds collide and lead to minimalist dark wave deconstructions that are equal parts brutal and erotic.
This duality is reflected in the name Skemer, which next to its obvious English meaning of 'intriguer' also stands for ‘dusk’ in Mathieu’s native tongue West-Flemish. The band recorded their debut album just months after meeting and this sense of urgency shines through in their effervescent live performances, where Peers seductive vocals coalesce with Vandekerckhove's austere beats to meld into a transcendent fury.
Debut album Benevolence is released on the 25th of October 2019 on Avant! Records. In 2022 a remix of the song “Sunseeker by Dana Montana was released on He.She.They Records.
Kim Peers has a background in the high end fashion world. She’s born and raised in fashion capital, Antwerp, where she started working in the 90’s with Inge Grognard and Ronald Stoops. She soon traveled the world for several high fashion magazines, runways and campaigns, such as Vogue, Prada, YSL and many more. To this day she’s still having fun with modeling in fashion. She also has a background in music. Under her own name her EP “Tell Me More” was released on DJ Hell ’s International Gigolos Records in 2004, with remixes by Mt Sims and David Carretta. The remix of David Carretta appeared on a compilation from Dave Clarke in 2005. In 2012 she started a no wave-punk band called Crimpers they released a 7” in 2012 on Dennis Tyfus’ Ultra Eczema records. Throughout the years she also enjoyed dj’ing. Meeting the Drag Me To Hell family felt like coming home and somewhere around 2018 Mati Drome, the founder of DMTH, invited her to become a resident dj at the Drag Me To Hell raves.
Mathieu Vandekerckhove is guitarist and a founding member of the post-metal band Amenra, Absent In Body and his personal project Syndrome. Amenra was formed in 1999 in the West Flanders city of Kortrijk. The band was founded by vocalist Colin H. van Eeckhout, lead guitarist Mathieu Vandekerckhove and bassist Kristof Mondy. The three had been in the hardcore punk band Spineless that split up in 1999 and wanted to create music with more "heart and soul”. Absent In Body originally formed in 2017 originally as the mutual vision of guitarist Vandekerckhove and Neurosis frontman Kelly, who, in conspiracy with Iggor Cavalera (ex-Sepultura, Cavalera Conspiracy, Petbrick,...) and Amenra’s Colin H. van Eeckhout, conjured a sprawling, episodic blend of post-metal and sludge. Atmosphere is key here, whether it's
the tribal drums against a squall of controlled noise that open "The Acres/The Ache," the mountain-cleaving riffs or the reflective, minimalist passages which offer a melodic reprieve.
aux animaux is a darkwave artist based in Stockholm, Sweden. Her songs draw inspiration from the 80s dark wave and goth bands, as well as occultism and horror movies.
aux animaux was born and raised in Istanbul. She is a self-taught musician that worked as a professional bass guitarist for several years up until moving to Sweden. With aux animaux, she produces and mixes all her songs. On stage she sings as well as alternating between theremin and bass guitar. The theremin, which she considers to be her source of sorcery, is the only instrument that is played without actually touching.
