A key architect of the Parisian techno renaissance of the 2010s, François X first emerged on DJ Deep’s Deeply Rooted label, with early releases and a remix by Marcel Dettman He first made his mark as a resident at Concrete, where he shaped a generation’s understanding of groove, tension, and physicality in techno. His sound, equally sensual and architectural, quickly took him beyond France, earning him recurring appearances at Berghain, Fabric, Awakenings and Melt Festival. Rooted in the Black American lineage of electronic music, Detroit, Chicago and New York, François X’s music channels the emotional legacy of house and techno while infusing it with a European sense of structure and experimentation. His productions balance rhythm and emotion, power and introspection, crafting a techno that feels both timeless and forward-thinking. Shortly after, he co-founded Dement3d Records, a pivotal imprint that helped shape the sound and identity of a new generation of French electronic artists. His debut album, Irregular Passion (2017), received critical acclaim from outlets such as Resident Advisor, establishing his reputation as a producer capable of fusing physical power with emotional narrative. In 2021, he founded XX LAB, a multidisciplinary label exploring experimental club culture, design, and multimedia storytelling. Through XX LAB, he released Digital Fever and CEO (Cowboy Executive Officer), demonstrating his fearless approach to sonic futurism and conceptual storytelling. His 2025 release Straight Edge Society marked a turning point, a manifesto of clarity and discipline, reflecting his philosophy of experiencing life in its raw, unfiltered form. The record became both a statement of independence and a moment of artistic maturity. Most recently, François X unveiled The Skin Between Us (Part I & II), a two-part project exploring identity, embodiment, and the Black roots of electronic music. Released on XX LAB, the EPs merge physical energy and introspective storytelling, forming a poetic synthesis of his journey, from Berghain’s hypnotic pulse to a deeply personal reflection on heritage and emotion. Today, François X continues to navigate the intersection of club culture, Black electronic heritage, and artistic innovation, standing as a connector between eras. His work embodies the elegance of chaos, proof that techno can be both deeply human and profoundly contemporary.
